$21 Weekly Food Challenge - Day 5
April 29th 2010 23:59
In a comment I made on the first post of this weekly challenge I mentioned I was feeling very 'fishes and loavesy'.
For those who don't know, it's a reference to a story in the Bible where Jesus has to feed 5000 people with only 3 loaves of bread and 2 fishes (it could also be 2 loaves of bread and 3 fishes, cant remember off the top of my head).
My comment describes how, since the beginning of the challenge, friends have come around with a meal, a little cousin brought us biscuits and today while doing an interview at a local farmer's market a lady gave me a fresh loaf of sour dough fruit bread.
People love to bless others and it seems that food is a great way to do that. With the bread I brought it back to the office and shared it with my co-workers, so one little action gave enjoyment to a whole office of people. And it was really lovely bread too.
I've noticed since being thrifty with our food, more seems to have come our way. It has given me incentive to share where we can as well.
Dinner tonight was Chili con Carne with mince that I bought on special a couple of weeks ago. We didn't have any kidney beans so a tin of baked beans was used instead and hubby raided the spice rack to give it a bit of bite. He put in cumin, paprika and cayenne pepper. It was all served up with mashed potatoes, the last of our fresh veges.
Despite putting in miniscule amounts of spices, the kids still found it hot so they ended up with a meal of vegemite on toast to finish off.
Personally, I loved it and wished he'd put some chillies in.
