It's Holiday Time!
March 3rd 2009 04:14
For most people they look forward to the summer holidays, time by the beach, camping or even just lounging at home. It's time away from work and all associated stresses.
For those of us who are in the service industry the summer holidays is actually our busiest time of year, especially if, like us, your business is in a tourist, beachside town. So hot weather means slaving over a hot-plate, selling lots of ice cream and milkshakes. Not that we mind, that is our choice, but boy, are we looking forward to our holidays.
To have a total week away from the shop, not worrying about opening on time, suppliers, customers, changing the doughnut oil, making sure the ice cream isn't too soft etc. etc. Absolute heaven.
Our wonderful staff will be running the shop for us while we are away, as we don't want our customers to miss out. This means that we will be spending more on salaries for the week, but we have included that as a necessary holiday expense, as much as our accomodation or meals might be while we are away.
So where are we going? To a place that screams "Holiday!" where we can loll by the pool, shop as we need to (well, as I want to) and just enjoy time with each other and our kids...yup, the Gold Coast. We'll make sure we include a visit to Sea World as well.
So for all those people who had their holidays in summer, we shall think of you occasionally as we enjoy our autumn break. See you when we get back!
