It's Rude People Day Today!!

The Rude Finger!
There are some days when all the rude people in town get together collectively and decide to come in for service. It's almost like there is a little association of those who never learnt to say 'please' or 'thank you' or who feel that people who work in a shop are beneath them.

Today was one of those days.

Firstly, there was 'Warm, Weak Latte'. She's a joy and a privilege to serve. There's no standing on ceremony with this dear charmer either. She will toddle into the shop and even before you say 'hello', she's barked 'warm, weak latte!'. Today, she ordered lunch and again her dulcit tones rang out, 'burger!'

Mark had the pleasure of telling her we only do bacon and egg rolls or baxter burgers (see previous post) so she changed it to 'egg sandwich!' (that's literally how she says it. The pleasantries of the English language just never made it in her lexicon). Of course we don't do cold egg sandwiches...'Just fry an egg then!'

That was too much for our senior who insisted she say please...and lo and behold, our senior got an apology from WWL who stated that it just came out like that.

Secondly, there was the old bloke (why are they always old?) who ordered two coffees and threw...yes threw...the money on the counter while Mark had his hand out to take it.

Finally, (well, for today anyway), while there were a number of people waiting to place an order, another old gent plodded up to the counter, oblivious of anyone waiting before him and ordered his coffees.

Let's just hope the rude convention in town has now wound up and we don't have to worry about them until next year!!

Hi Samantha--your post cracked me up, thanks! Reminds me of my times in the service industry.

Of course, as I got older I also became less tolerant of the rude and had my own special replies to them.

When someone interrupts my "Hi, what can I--" with "Coffee!" I'd play the "Fifty Thousand Dollar Pyramid" game with them:

"Uh, something you drink for breakfast? No, wait--something you grind! No? Something you brew! No? PASS!"

Thanks for sharing.

Hi D.

Hahaha, I'll check that website out! I like playing games with some of the customers too, or just giving smart replies. One customer walked in today and asked if she could make up her own sandwich (ie. not one of the prepared gourmet ones on the menu).

I was tempted to say "Sure, I'll stand aside and you come around here!"

Ah, ya gotta laugh!

I hate it when people throw money... is there anything more demeaning?

My favourite service industry blog is Waiter Rant - now he's famous, though, but his archives are brilliant...

Funny thing is that most of our customers are wonderful, esp. the locals. The tourists have their good and bad mix. It was just funny that day, they all seemed to come in at once.

Cib, shall check out the Waiter Rant..sounds interesting.
