Our Award Winning Night!!
October 31st 2008 01:01
It is probably the closest I will ever get to the Logies or even the Oscars I had thought when we arrived for the North Coast Local Business Awards for 2008. When we turned up to the Coffs Harbour ex Servicemen's club on Friday 17th October, I didn't realise how true that thought would become.
After pre-dinner drinks and an appetiser, we were introduced to Ella James, our MC for the night. For those who may not know Ella by face or name, next time you get instructions from your GPS from the silky smooth female voice, say 'hi' to Ella. (On a recent trip to the Barossa Valley with friends we had actually nicknamed her Lola, from a Robin Williams movie!)
Ella moved quickly through the categories of different businesses, announcing winners left, right and centre. Our table companions for the night were real estate agents from Casino and were just as excited as we were, especially as our respective categories drew nearer.
Finally, we got to the Fast Food/Takeaway category and as the nominees were read out, our new friends and ourselves cheered heartily when we heard The Sandwich Shak named. Then, slowly as the envelope was opened, we could feel ourselves leaning forward in anticipation.
"The winner for best Fast Food/Takeaway is....The Sandwich Shak"
I remember screaming, then heading up on stage to receive the trophy from the Clarence Valley mayor with Mark. Overwhelmed would be an understatement, as to how we both felt. While our table companions didn't win their category, they helped us share our win with a few drinks and dancing afterwards.
The trophy now sits proudly displayed on our front counter in the shop.
