'Suck it Up!'
February 24th 2009 07:22
The phrase doesn't really have much to do with the running of our small business, but it's one that Sir and I have been hearing alot lately.
Firstly, I'm a bit of a fan of 'The Biggest Loser' and sucking it up seems to be the only way the trainers communicate getting over the pain to the overweight contestants, especially The Commando.
Secondly, I was watching an episode of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' and Frank, Raymond's father, was using the phrase as his philosophy on life.
And then, I was innocently watching the Oscars last night and I hear Kate Winslett telling Meryl Streep to 'suck up' the fact that she considers it an honour, not just to win the category for Best Actress, but that she was even nominated in the same class as the older actress. Cold comfort for Meryl who didn't win.
Yes, I know, it seems we watch too much TV. In between running the shop, joining school council and auditioning for the latest play run by the local theatre group, that's what I like to do. Switch off and switch on the tv.
So, for whatever reason my ears have become sensitised to this new piece of lexicon in the English language, I have been encouraging our customers who have ordered our milkshakes, thickshakes and smoothies to 'Enjoy as they suck it up!'
