The internet has been named as the biggest influence when cooking and shopping has to be done.
According to Allrecipes.com.au Measuring Cup Consumer Trends Report
First Quarter 2010* more than half of Australian and New Zealand cooks go online at least once a week to look for food, recipe and beverage information. The internet has now replaced other recipe sources as the primary resource for new recipes.
According to the survey 41% of respondents report using the internet more now than two years ago to find new recipes. Friends and family, cookbooks, magazines and television are no longer primary resources for new recipes; each is used 39% to 49% less than two years ago.
It found that across all age groups, 52% look online for food, recipes and beverage information once a week or more.
Consumers aged 45 to 54 look most often for food, recipe and drink information online; 55% look once a week or more.
It also said that 32% of consumers go to a supermarket within three days of visiting a recipe website, while 19% go within one day, and 21% go within one week.
*Allrecipes.com.au conducted its User Survey between 25 February to 15 March, 2010, with 756 households participating for a margin of error plus or minus four percent.
